Benefits
Anti-Aging: Centella Asiatica extract can promote the synthesis of collagen I and III, and can also promote the secretion of mucopolysaccharides (such as the synthesis of sodium hyaluronate), increase the water retention of the skin, and activate and renew skin cells. Anti-bacterial: Centella asiatica extract contains asiatic acid and madecassic acid, which are active saponins that acidify the cytoplasm in plant cells. Asiaticoside and hydroxyasiaticoside are the effective components of Centella asiatica in treating burn wounds and promoting wound healing. They can promote collagen synthesis and angiogenesis, stimulate granulation tissue growth, and thus benefit wound healing. Simultaneously, asiaticoside has a proliferative effect on epidermal keratinocytes and vascular endothelial cells, and an inhibitory effect on fibroblasts, thereby promoting granulation tissue formation in the early stages of wound healing and inhibiting scar formation in the later stages.
Acne Treatment and Skin Whitening: Centella asiatica extract can inhibit tyrosinase activity in a dose-dependent manner, with a 4% inhibition rate at 4 μg/ml. Centella asiatica extract cream is significantly more effective than hydroquinone cream in treating pigmentation, and the incidence of adverse reactions is significantly lower, although the onset of action is slightly slower.
Antioxidant Properties: Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, and Madecassic Acid all possess significant antioxidant activity. Animal experiments have shown that asiaticoside can significantly increase the levels of local antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase, glutathione, catalase, vitamin C, and vitamin E in the early stages of wound healing, and reduce the level of lipid peroxides in the wound by 7-fold. Furthermore, asiaticoside is also a good inhibitor of apoptosis, significantly reducing the concentration of intracellular oxygen free radicals and thus having a significant effect on the biological effects of apoptosis-inducing radicals on tissue cells.

In cosmetics, its whole dried herb is generally used, and cosmetic formulations containing different concentrations of Centella asiatica extract (water-in-oil emulsions and hydrogels) have moisturizing properties and anti-inflammatory activity. It is a fully water-soluble natural active ingredient, which not only has anti-aging and anti-inflammatory effects and can be used in scar repair and acne cosmetics, but also helps retain skin moisture. Therefore, Centella asiatica extract can be used as a supplement for treating dry and sensitive skin in moisturizing cosmetic formulations and has long been used as a brain tonic, diuretic, adjuvant for leprosy and ulcers, as well as for skin treatments.
